Advertising Scams: What Car Dealers Won’t Do to Sell Cars
3 min readAt some point in all of our lives we have been shopping to buy a new car. The basic things that the consumer trusts and relies on to buy a new car is the advertisements which will give you the best possible deal.
It has come to this Consumer’s attention that the advertisements in the newspapers are not always the truth. I went shopping for a new car and I was really interested in the Toyota Corolla or the Toyota Camry. I noticed a great advertisement. They were offering a great deal on both the cars and they had also offered 0% financing. I was so excited that I had to go to the dealer.
I walked into the dealer with the advertisement, I was greeted by the salesman and very helpful he was. I explained to him what I wanted and he told me that this deal was no longer. The deal on the Camry and the Corolla was last month and there was no 0% financing either. He said the 0% financing was on another vehicle this month. I was so outraged I told him that this is false advertising, he told me no that this is what they do to bring in the customers. Then they try to put the pressure on you to buy a vehicle that you do not want.
This to the average Consumer is known as Bait and Switch. This is a form of fraud.
The basic function of the Bait and Switch is to convince the average consumer to purchase a vehicle that they did not want and this is a means of side tracking the consumer off the disappointment of not getting the car that they want. This form of sales is very common in the United States.
The legality of this is that the companies can be sued for the use of the Bait and Switch. But, this consumers eyes it seems like a waste. The consumer should be more aware of these types of practices and also be more cautious when making a large purchase. This type of sales practice is very common among purchases such as cars, real estate, and any other large purchases.
We all need to be aware of the surrounding sales practices because this is an ongoing problem and if they are allowed to get away they will be stealing the consumers money and the rich will get richer and the poor will get poorer.
The Attorney General constantly investing reports of the Bait and Switch. But let us be honest they do not have enough man power to handle the steady flow of complaints. This is something that our Government should put a heavy hand on. This is not right for the average Joe who works hard for his money and to have people try to take it from him.
Consumers be alert when making a large purchase or any purchase because the way the economy is today the
large conglomerates will do anything to take your money….
