How to Sell Your Car: Helpful Tips
3 min readSelling a used car is not the easiest of tasks to accomplish. However, from time-to-time it has to be done, which is why a quick reference guide will hopefully make it a little easier and put you on the path to success and a happy sale!
Clean up your car before showing it. The best way to do this is to have your car professionally detailed by a company. This will make the inside and outside of your car look as nice as possible and will prepare it to show to potential buyers.
Take a picture. Once your car has been professionally cleaned it is time to take a picture of your car for the advertisement. If possible a picture outside on a sunny day will show your car in the best possible light. Do make sure you photograph it in the light of day. If possible posting multiple pictures of the interior and exterior of the car is helpful as it will give the potential buyer a greater idea of the current condition of the car.
Find out the market value of your car. Do your research and find out how much your car is worth in this day and age and set the starting price in correspondance with your findings. This will ensure you have some interest in your car. A good place to start looking for the current value is used car sites on the internet and classifieds.
Provide all important details in your advertisement, and advertise in multiple locations. This will help weed out the interested buyers to the not so interested buyers. Make sure you provide all basic details of the car and any additional add on’s. In addition to this you want to keep the advertisement simple and reader friendly. You will also want to make sure you are honest in your advertisement as the potential buyer will find out the truth eventually.
Be prepared to answer questions. Buying a car is an important decision to make and any potential buyer will want to ask multiple questions about your car. In order to prevent wasting anyone’s time be prepared to answer these questions with a list of facts about your car.
Show your car. If you are not comfortable being by yourself when doing this find a public place where you are comfortable.
Negotiations. Many people will want to negotiate the price lower than your advertised price. Decide how low you are willing to go in price, and be ready to respond to any reasons why you should lower your price. You will need to justify your reasons, but be fair and reasonable as you want to sell your car too.
Be patient. Selling a car can take some time so be prepared to have your car on the market for awhile. Don’t get frustrated if it doesn’t sell immediately as it’s more important to have a solid sale that you are happy with rather than a rushed sale that you are not so happy with.
And Last but not Least, Good Luck!
