The Best Car I Ever Owned
3 min read
I think back to all the cars and trucks I have owned. They all had something great about them that you could say any of them were the best cars I ever owned. I had cars that had speed, looks, great gas mileage, etc. I had trucks that were tough, 4×4 with big tires and a lift kit. I had to think long and hard and I finally came up with the best car I have ever owned and to my surprise it was the first car I ever owned.
The first car I ever owned was actually a truck. It was a standard pickup truck. It was a Dodge built by Mitsubishi. It was a late model used pickup truck. There was really nothing special about it at all. It was a normal 4×2 pickup truck, brown with tan interior. It may not have been much to look at but boy was it special.
It was special because it was the first car I owned and bought with my own money. I was so excited to have my own car. I remember the day I purchased it and drove it home. I was so proud. I went to the store to buy all these little accessories for it, to make all that. Looking back it was not really all that but at the time it was the bomb. I was so proud that I bought this truck. I proudly showed it off to all my friends. I thought at the time I was so cool, well at least in my own mind I was.
It is funny that as I write this and think about this truck, I realize it was really not all that. So why do I think it was the best car I ever owned and then it hit me. It was not really the truck that made it the best car I ever owned but what it stood for that makes it the best car I ever owned.
It stood for independence and freedom and you cannot put a price tag on that. I no longer had to bum rides from my friends. I no longer had to pony up gas money, which we all know is always over inflated just to get a ride somewhere. I no longer had to beg my parents for the car. If I wanted to go somewhere all I had to do was grab my keys and go. A whole new world opened up to me. I was the cool one among my friends, they did not have cars yet. I was able to get a job and have money in my pocket. Lastly, now I could actually take girls on dates whenever I wanted. It was an exciting time. There of course were much greater milestones in my life since then, but at that time it seemed life could not get any better.
Some people may think back on things they have owned and actually rank those material items. I like to think back on what those items meant to me and my life. The material items may not be all that, but the meaning and memories those material items gave me are what is really important.
They say money and material items cannot make a person happy. That may only be partly true. It may not be the actually material item that makes you happy but what that material item stands for and means can make one happy!
