How to Sell Your Car
3 min readIf you want to sell your car with a minimum hassle, read my tips on How to Sell your Car! Selling a car can be a confusing process, but it doesn’t have to be!
Fix the Big Stuff – If your reason for selling is a major issue such as a blown motor or transmission, you may want to consider fixing it before you sell. Not only will this make your car easier to sell, it will also increase the resale value of your car so that you can buy a better car than would have been otherwise possible.
Fix the Small Stuff – If there are little things wrong with your car, like a window that doesn’t roll down, or an A/C system that doesn’t blow cold air, get them fixed! It may not seem like a big deal to you, but car buyers are a finicky bunch, and these little things will add up in their eyes! Also, take your car for a drive around the block and listen for squeaks, rattles, and other distracting noises. Do what you can to get those silenced, no matter how minor it seems!
Improve Your Curb Appeal – Been awhile since your car has had a good cleaning? It may be time to start! If you don’t have much practice in the art of car detailing, you may want to read How to Detail Your Car, or simply hire a professional to do it for you. You’ll want to start from the inside and work your way out. Take all the unnecessary stuff out of the inside of your car, vacuum the interior, and use armorall or a similar product on any interior plastic or vinyl surfaces to give it that “new car” look. Then work your way outside and clean the body, tires, wheels, and even the engine bay. You want everything to be as neat and clean as possible when potential buyers come and take a look!
Advertise the Sale – While “For Sale” signs on your care are an effective means to get the word out locally, you will also want to consider using websites such as Craigslist, Backpage, and Auto Trader to get even more attention from potential buyers! Consider also adding a web link to your “for Sale” sign so that a potential buyer can learn as much as possible about your car if it peaks their interest.
Have Your Title Notarized – Before you can sell the car, you will need what is known as an “Open Title”. Basically, you will sign the back of the title and have your signature notarized. This ensures that your title is ready to be signed over to the buyer as soon as they have paid you.
Be Persistent – If you don’t get the offer you were hoping for, just keep at it! Make sure all of your internet ads are up to date and renew them every week or so to make sure that they are still visible. Don’t be afraid to drive around town and “show off” that clean car and for-sale sign, either!
